What is Wing Chun?

Wing Chun is an ancient and practical Chinese martial art which was arguably made famous by Grandmaster Yip Man when he bought the art to Hong Kong in the1950s.

Thought to have originated from mainland China, Wing Chun is combat orientated, practical and simplified in nature which when taught properly, is still effective in todays modern society.

The art consists of only 3 empty hand forms, 2 weapons forms and learning the use of the Mook Jong (or Wooden Dummy).

However while the general curriculum may seem simple, the complexity of the art is only limited by the skills and imagination of the practitioner.

Here at AWCKFO we focus on the combat application of the art which we've simplified into 5 main principles:

  • Be First

  • Be Fast

  • Be Sharp

  • Be Effective

  • Be like glue (stick)

With these guiding principles, we believe that the practitioner will apply their skills in the most effective way.
